A Little Revere History
Revere has a very rich history, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Revere was founded as North Chelsea in 1846, renamed in 1871 after Revolutionary war patriot Paul Revere, patriot known for Paul Revere’s Ride (Henry Wadsworth Longfellow 1860)
On July 12th, 1896 Revere Beach was opened as the first public beach in the nation. An estimated 45,000 people showed up that day! Revere Beach became famous for its dance halls and ballrooms, dance marathons, bowling alleys, roller skating rinks, and attractions like Derby Racer, The Whip Ferris Wheel, Lightning Terrifying Triplets roller coasters and The Cyclone, a wooden roller coaster that was the tallest roller coaster ever built at the time of its construction in 1925.
Today, as many as one million people visit Revere Beach during its annual sand sculpture competition!
